Software SIG: Risk Management  

Approximately 70% of IT projects fail. This statistic has not changed in the 20 years since such project metrics have been captured. Today’s software development efforts are more critical to company success and therefore pose a much larger risk of business failure. Now that developers presumably have more sophisticated and robust tools for development, testing, and infrastructure, this should not be the case.

Mark Witczak, an expert in Information Technology risk analysis and mitigation, will discuss several specific reasons large projects encounter difficulty during implementation, why senior management does not recognize these risks, and what you can do to bring these risks to light

Mark Witczak earned an MBA from George Washington University and a BS degree in Computer Science from the Michigan State University College of Engineering. He is a senior member of IEEE, past member of the IEEE Committee on Communication and Information Policy (CCIP) and the IEEE Global Communications Conference 2008 (Globecom 2008) Organizing Committee. He has been working in the IT/software development industry for 20 years, the last 15 years in various management roles leading large development efforts for Fortune 500 companies and federal agencies. He is currently the founder of Out of Nowhere, an information technology risk analysis and mitigation firm based in Fairfax, Virginia.
