Program Summary: Are there successful models that help organizations survive and prosper in this difficult economy?  Join us on the evening of Feb 9 for a free meeting to hear from Dr. Harry Hertz, Director of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. Dr. Hertz will walk through data and evidence that has been gathered from the many Award applications, applicant analyses, and external studies since 1988.  

According to NIST Planning Report 11-2, December 2011, the Baldrige Program's benefit-to-cost ratio is 820 to 1. To arrive at this ratio, they compared the benefits received by the 273 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award applicants from 2007 to 2010 with the cost of operating the Baldrige Program. 

Millions of copies of the Baldrige Criteria having been downloaded worldwide. Come to this session to better understand the tangible benefits that have been observed and discuss why they have been achieved.  Most importantly, better understand how these benefits might be available to you and your organization. 
 
Speaker Biography: Dr. Harry Hertz is responsible for the Baldrige National Quality Program that administers the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Prior to becoming Program Director in 1996, he served as the Program's Deputy Director from 1992-1996. Dr. Hertz has been with the National Institute of Standards and Technology since 1973, originally as a research chemist, and then in a series of management positions including Director of the Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory.

Dr. Hertz has made presentations to a wide variety of audiences on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, its criteria for measuring performance excellence, and on health care and education quality improvement. He is the author or co-author of over 50 publications and holds one patent. He has a B.S. in Chemistry from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a Ph.D. from M.I.T. Following graduate school, Dr. Hertz spent two years as an Alexander von Humboldt Fellow at the University of Munich.

He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and an Honorary Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
